My NARPM Takeaways

A week ago I was on a plane coming back from Atlanta, having spent the week with hundreds of professional property managers (and many wonderful vendors).

Here are some of my observations and thoughts:

• Is it just me or are these conferences getting more fun? There are multiple parties every night, and the overall mood seems very positive.

• Many property managers are concerned about their “Days on Market” number going up this year compared to any time in recent memory.

• Process and systems dominate almost every conversation. Everyone is looking for ways to become more organized and efficient. This is no longer a side conversation among nerds. It’s the main thing.

• Jeremy Pound and his team at RentScale were handing out hard copies of Strategic PM Magazine (issue #2). It’s incredibly impressive and packed with valuable content for anyone in the industry. There’s no fluff. As a proponent of the written word as a way to share knowledge within our industry, I love to see it.

• Jordan Muela was behind the scenes cranking out podcast recordings back to back, this guy is a machine. You’re listening to his show, right? It’s hard to think of anyone who has done more to help push our industry forward.

• The quality of conversations continues to go up. The more we (as an industry) can standardize on things like accounting, operations, terminology, and KPIs, the more elevated our discussions and strategy can become. We need to keep at this.
