I Hired a Personal Assistant // We're Hiring a BDM
I Hired a Personal Assistant (My First)
I'm on day 8 with my new full-time personal assistant Monica (she lives in the Philippines), and it's going awesome. I should have done this years ago. She's helping me with a combination of business & personal stuff.
Examples of stuff she’s already done for me:
Built a zap that emails me any Slack message that I bookmark ("save for later")
Texts me my schedule every morning
Booked 6 meetings and 2 appointments
Researched stuff to do with the kids this weekend and put it in a nice Notion table with location, time, etc
Ordered 2 different things on Amazon, 1 for work 1 for home
Sends me a end-of-shift recap of what she did
Tracks all tasks/projects in shared Notion
Building out her own Task Map of what she does for me, with SOPs
Updated expired credit card info for a subscription
Updated a blog post
Created the skeleton of this newsletter, contacted the sponsor to get their copy, and placed it in the newsletter.
Why it's working for me, and how this can work for you too:
Shared password system (I use 1Password). I already had ALL my usernames and passwords saved in here going back 10 years. It was as simple as adding her as a user, and moving over logins she needs to access into a shared "vault". NOTE: She does not have access to all my passwords, only the ones I explicitly share.
I already had a personal/family Notion (screenshot below) with a ton of my basic info (eg - health insurance). So she is able to be productive right away without asking me a billion questions all the time. She is also using this to track and document her work. [I had a bunch of people ask me about this when I shared it on Twitter, so I made this template available to purchase for $45 here.]
WhatsApp for rapid communication.
Get her RingCentral so she can easily/cheaply call US phone numbers
Understanding cultural differences and taking time to get to know her as a person. Daily checkins to build her confidence (and mine).
Can't go any further without shouting out Jon Matzner’s experience and playbooks that brought this to life. Highly recommend his "1 click assistant" product (no affiliation). He is the GOAT when it comes to working with global talent and writes a weekly newsletter on this exact topic. Jon's VAs have their own VAs. There's levels to this sh*t. But don't call them VAs (I prefer RTM = remote team member).
Not being afraid to give her full access to necessary logins, credit cards, etc etc. I have experience working with global talent so this was not hard for me.
Jon and I recorded a series of short videos all about my journey finding, hiring and onboarding my personal assistant from the Philippines. Find all 3 videos right here.
Highly recommend getting yourself an EA / personal assistant if you're a busy entrepreneur!
One more thing. If you’re looking to start using global talent within your property management business operations, I highly recommend working with BetterWho. They have a “done for you” approach where they do ALL the legwork of finding someone for your open role (with or without PM experience). We’ve hired four people with them in the last several years and I can recommend them without reservation. Reply to this email for a personal introduction.
I’m Hiring a BDM (Salesperson)
We’re looking for a new business development manager (BDM)!
I’ll be working with RentScale to recruit, onboard and train our new salesperson. Jeremy Pound & the team there do an outstanding job. We used them to find our first-ever salesperson 3 years ago and it was the best decision I’ve ever made.
Here’s a bit more about the role in case you know anyone who might be interested…
Work with me & the team to introduce RL Property Management to prospective property owner clients, learn about their goals and fears, and help them make the right decision.
Central Ohio candidates preferred but not required.
Sales experience is a must.
Competitive pay (base + commission).
Get in touch with me if interested.
This week’s issue is sponsored by: Enterprise Bank.
In the Property Management industry, there is no bank more LOVED by their customer than Enterprise Bank & Trust.
The glowing reviews range from:
Earnings credits to not only provide free banking but ALSO offset company invoices as well;
To a consultative approach to property management banking due to the specialty and niche knowledge in the CORRECT way to bank trust accounts and protect client funds;
OR the best in class customer service team that ONLY works for property management clients.
Allison DiSarro and the property management banking team at Enterprise have been the top choice for our industry for over a decade, and as a client of Enterprise Bank & Trust, you can expect these same benefits that thousands of property management companies have been receiving.
Contact Allison and the PM banking team today to learn how your bank can finally work for YOU!
ReSeed Launch Video
I’ve been following Moses and Rhett’s new venture, ReSeed, since they first announced it earlier this year. What is ReSeed? From their website:
We work with talented and ambitious operating partners, providing them with capital, services, and mentorship and accelerating their path to scale.
They just dropped a sweet video recap of their Launch Week, check it out.
I got a chance to connect with several of the folks involved while at Re-Convene a couple weeks ago, and it was awesome to hear about what Moses & his team are doing. Love to see it. Their first cohort of 8 operators (they had 650 applications) sounds like an amazing group. This seems like the perfect path for any professional property manager who wants to start GPing/sponsoring/syndicating their own deals.
Industry News and Events
NARPM’s National conference is next week in Atlanta, and I will be there. Will you? Check out this great attendee guide (short video) from Jordan Muela. Best way to find out about all the afterparties!
Sales Mastery Live (Allbound Conference) from RentScale - December 4th in Austin TX (the day before the LeadSimple user summit). I’ll be there!
PM Systems Conference - January! I’m speaking.
Closing Thought
In the coming years, many condo HOAs will self terminate and sell their buildings to a developer rather than pay to bring their properties up to safety standards
Fannie and Freddie are expediting this by blacklisting 1400+ condo associations & co-ops as of today
