Notion Templates
Are you Notion-curious? I've created several Notion templates that might help get you started.
Vision/Goal Organizer Template - FREE. This is adapted from the framework Michael Girdley uses for making big plans and long-term goals. Read more about that here.
EOS/Traction Template - If your company runs on EOS, this will work perfectly for you. It's basically a Notion version of the VTO, plus a framework for running L10 meetings. Use code "NEWSLETTER" for 50% off.
Family/Household Template - How I organize my home & life, and keep everything in one place. See what it looks like in the screenshot below. Use code "NEWSLETTER" for 50% off.
Upcoming Events
SMB Ohio Meetup: April 22nd in Columbus, Ohio. Join me, Reg Zeller, John Wilson, Kelcey Lehrich, Chrissi Sanders and more. Small business owners, investors, and searchers. RSVP here. We have over 20 folks planning to attend!
Austin RE Meetup: I’ll be hanging out in Austin the week of May 2nd, catching up with some friends who live there. I’ll almost certainly be looking to organize a real estate meetup. Are you in Austin? Let me know!
Starting a Property Management Company?
Starting a new property management company? This is your job:
1. Decide who you want to serve (pick a narrow market segment). The tighter, the better. Bad: We manage HOAs, condo associations, and rentals in Minneapolis. Good: We only manage single-family rentals in class-B neighborhoods.
2. Design a marketing strategy to provide value & attract your ideal customer. Content marketing is king. Create information and products that will help prospective customers whether or not they hire you. You have to actually want to do this.
3. Define your scope of service. What exactly is included in your base property management fee? What do you charge extra for? What will you not do at all?
4. Design the operations tech stack. Do not underestimate how important it is to get this right from the start. Do research and talk to others in the business if you can. Here is ours:
How To Work ON (not in) Your Business
This is one of my most popular blog posts of all time. The topic is nine strategies that have worked for me as I transitioned from a solo founder, to a business owner. In order to succeed you need to figure out how to spend time working on your business, instead of inside it (doing operational tasks). Maybe you can find something that works for you!
Closing Thoughts
Own a business?
Your job is not to deliver goods or services to customers.
Your job is to design the system for doing so.Grasp this deeply, and you will succeed.
